sps recommends: The World of Print

The World of Print

25 October to 16 December 2016

In recent years theorists of aesthetics have variously challenged the inadequacy of fine art focused aesthetics, and have proposed a deeper appreciation of the aesthetic values and particular characteristics of objects and environmental phenomena from everyday life, They have urged a consideration of these aspects of life in relation to existential, political and other contemporary experiences. Ref. Yuriko Saito, Everyday Aesthetics, 2007.
In fact the last century has seen significant challenge to and broadening of our understanding and experience of art, not just from ‘the everyday’. Ref. John Dewey, Art As Experience, 1934.

The World of Print provides an opportunity to experience and consider, a group of images/objects, from an open submission, that are clearly within the category of printed material, (and part of the International Print Biennale programme), but equally clearly are not considered in their own right to be works of art.
